Why Omsk?

Omsk is located in the center of West-Siberian valley on the banks of the quiet river Irtysh. That’s why no natural disasters like flooding, hurricanes or earthquakes ever happen in Omsk, unlike some of the other Russian regions. The local climate is continental with a lot of sunny days. Average winter temperature is -15 to -20oC, while the average summer temperature is +20 to +27oC. Living costs in Omsk, such as food or transport are much lower than those in Moscow or Saint-Petersburg. Besides Russians, there are more than 120 different nationalities represented in Omsk. There are also more than 20 confessions – including Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant branches of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and many others.


Study cost is much lower in OSTU than in Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Tomsk or Novosibirsk universities. OSTU campus is located in the center of Omsk. The territory of the secured campus contains student dormitories, the students’ canteen, academic buildings, sports grounds, the students’ creative center and a polyclinic. The cost of lunch in the canteen is about 150 rubles. The cost of living in the double or triple room is about 800 rubles per month.
