The Russian Foundation for basic research has summed up the results of the competition for the best basic research projects carried out by young scientists studying in postgraduate education. A total of 1,540 participants were supported, including Maria Kuznetsova, a postgraduate student at the Department of electric railways rolling stock at Omsk State Transport University (her research supervisor – doctor of technical sciences, Professor Vasily Cheremisin).
The independent news agency "Interfax" has published a national ranking of universities in 2020. According to the data obtained, Omsk State Transport University ranks 150th (out of 337 universities in Russia). Among the nine railway universities in the country, OSTU is in fourth place, behind Russian University of Transport (MIIT), Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University (PGUPS) and Rostov State Transport University (RSTU).
On July 15, the Omsk city council decided by a majority vote to award the title of «Honorary citizen Omsk» to Ilham Islamovich Galiev, the President of Omsk State Transport University.
OSTU started issuing diplomas to graduates of 2020. This year's celebrations have been adjusted due to the pandemic. The diplomas were delivered according to a schedule, with the necessary safety measures.

In the same discipline Natalya Lamkova won a bronze medal (group 28B).
During the peak spread of coronavirus infection Omsk has become one of the islands of hope, sheltering sick people that came from the regions without enough resources to fight the disease.
More than a thousand volunteers have already joined the regional headquarters for countering coronavirus infection. OSTU volunteer center did not stand aside. Volunteers help pensioners who are currently at high risk.
On April, 16, the senior year students of specialty «Heat power engineering» have passed an independent assessment of the results of mastering the educational program and compliance with the descriptors of the European qualifications in the form of Federal Internet-exam — external independent evaluation of the quality of graduates of a bachelor degree. The exam is organized to provide an opportunity of voluntary certification of baccalaureate graduates for compliance with the requirements of the Federal state educational standard.
On April 9, 2020, the senior year students from the Department of Advertising and Public Relations have passed an independent assessment of the results of their mastering the educational program and compliance with the descriptors of the European qualifications in the form of a Federal Internet exam.

Students of Omsk State Transport University Anastasia Rogoznaya and Daria Kovalevich won prizes (1st and 2nd place, respectively) at the inter-university student scientific and practical conference «Current issues of state regulation of foreign economic activity: domestic and foreign experience», held on March 4, 2020 at the Siberian state university of railway transport (Novosibirsk).

On January 19, 2020, our volleyball players took first place in the Leaders' Cup tournament, beating the OmSTU team. The meeting with the team «Phoenix» was a hard struggle and ended with a victory of our opponents with a score of 2:1.
From October 1st to October 11th, in accordance with the cooperation agreement with the Kyrgyz state Technical University, associate Professor of the Department of transport Sergey Dresvyannikov and lecturer Ermek Kerimkulov underwent advanced training at OSTU.
From September 9 to September 20, the 7th meeting of the Russian-Kyrgyz consortium of technical universities (RKKTU) was held in Bishkek at the Kyrgyz State Technical University (KSTU).
On April 13 to April 14, 2019, the Siberian Cup — Druzhba competition was held in Novosibirsk among Mongolian students that study at the Siberian Federal district universities. Six students from our University went to the competition.
A student of OSTU became the winner in one of the categories of the 4th International competition for the best essay by foreign students "Russia and the East: tolerance of cultures and traditions».
On March 15 to March 16, the Omsk city chess club hosted an Inter-university chess tournament. OSTU student Jargalsaikhan Otgonjargal took second place.
On March 14, 2019, six graduate students of OSTU participated in the «Transport and mechanical engineering» section of the 61st international network scientific and technical conference of young scientists, postgraduates, undergraduates and students «Scientific and innovative technologies: ideas, research and development», dedicated to the 65th anniversary of KSTU named after Razzakov.
On May 2 to May 5, Yekaterinburg hosted the 5th Russian national sports competition among foreign students of Russian universities. Competitions were held in eight disciplines: table tennis, mini-football, park volley, streetball, rock climbing, shooting sports, checkers and chess. This event brought together 22 teams from Russian universities, which included students from more than 30 countries.
